Senior UX/UI Designer

Due to increasing workloads, Spinning Fox is looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer to join our existing team of designers and full-stack developers.

Spinning Fox was founded by James Lyne and Tim Aikin. We're a company that lives and breathes design and technology, and we use that passion to build engaging digital experiences to solve business problems.

We're made up of innovators, design thinkers and experts in programming and security, but more than that we're passionate about using that expertise to solve complex challenges, design engaging digital experiences and build amazing applications that make a real difference to the businesses we work with.

We're looking for someone who is insatiably curious and is passionate about perfecting their skills, as well as learning new ones. You are someone who will speak up; get involved in debates and be happy to be client-facing and good at understanding client needs before making recommendations.

We're looking for someone with great front-end UX/UI design skills, who has a keen eye for interface design and a strong knowledge of design fundamentals generally. You will have a passion for creating amazing user experience's and solving complex problems with elegant solutions that prioritise clarity and purpose.

A huge bonus for us if you are comfortable writing high quality, semantic, modular, maintainable code. For example, strong HTML, SCSS and React experience would be beneficial but are not essential.

As part of a small cross-functional team, you will need solid communication skills, the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical team members and clients, as well as the capacity to work steadfastly under your own direction. You'll help play a role in product ownership, roadmapping and working with the senior team to decide on product priorities as well as facilitating design sprints and user testing sessions.

Much of the team work remotely and are based in the UK and Canada but we do have an office in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, UK. There is the option to work in either environment but having space to work remotely, and use tools such as Zoom, Slack and other tools to communicate is essential.

Key skills and responsibilities

  • You're a strong communicator. You'll frequently find yourself immersed in conversation with our clients to understand their product and problems.
  • You have expert prototyping skills. You need to be familiar with at least one prototyping tool to be able to quickly visualise potential solutions to put in front of end users.
  • You've facilitated or been a part of design sprints. Design-led thinking is at the core of everything we do. We've taken the Google design sprint process and shaped it into a remote friendly process.
  • Your design decisions are driven by data. You'll need to ensure that you can justify design decisions with qualitative and quantitative data.
  • You enjoy being creative with code. Experience with HTML, CSS and JS frameworks would be a bonus. We use React and Vue.
  • You obsess over design details. You'll be expected to flex your creative ability in your favourite design tool to create UI's that delight. We use Sketch.
  • You get excited by solving problems. You'll frequently be challenged with difficult problems that need to be solved through creative, innovative solutions that put the user first.
  • You'll be confident in running user testing sessions to validate your UX and design decisions.
  • Work closely with the FE Developers, Project Managers and Product Owner(s) to help break down business requirements into measurable and implementable user stories.
  • Participate in our agile development process including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and monthly company meetings.
  • Participate and successfully deliver on multiple high priority projects while adapting to changing business priorities.
  • Be self-motivated and can work to tight deadlines.
